The issue

Disruptive behaviour

We all have a right to live in a peaceful neighbourhood. This means you and your neighbours have the right to enjoy and use your property in peace, privacy and comfort without interference. This applies to everyone, whether they own their home, rent privately or are a public housing tenant.

What is disruptive behaviour?

Disruptive behaviour is an ongoing or unreasonable nuisance or disruption that occurs at or near a public housing property that negatively impacts any person residing in the immediate vicinity. This can include:

• excessive or ongoing noise

• threats, intimidation, offensive behaviour or assault

• unlawful trespass

• noise and disturbance from household arguments

Our Community

We have been residents in Ferndale for almost a decade and in this time, we have dealt with ongoing disruptive and criminal behaviour which has gotten worse over the years. This behaviour includes hooning on motorbikes in the Canning River Regional Park, on roads, private property and footpaths, endangering public safety and peace. Other behaviours include intimidation, verbal abuse and threats from visitors and tenants from Public Housing, increased crime including burglary and trespassing as well as increased drug activity and abuse.

As we are in close vicinity to Public Housing, the families in the vicinity are subject to daily displays of violence, verbal abuse, drug abuse behaviours, resulting in us no longer feeling safe within our own homes. Reaching further into the community, families and community members are subjected to reckless riding, exposure to verbal abuse and intimidation, alongside increased criminal activities including, but not limited to burglary, trespassing and property damage.

Despite ongoing reports to the WA Police, Department of Communities and the City of Canning, there has been no action that has resulted in a safer community. This petition is to showcase the number of residents and community members who are affected by these disruptive behaviours and want community safety and peace to be a priority. Please sign below to help us regain our safe, peaceful community.
