The A16 between Spalding and Peterborough is no longer fit for purpose. This road is one of the main commuter and transport routes into Peterborough, used daily by workers, businesses, HGVs, and residents across South Lincolnshire. Every morning and evening, traffic crawls for miles, causing long delays and frustration for thousands of people trying to get to work.

In addition to wasting time, these delays pose economic challenges for businesses relying on timely deliveries and workers needing to arrive punctually. The current single carriageway is not designed to handle the high volume of traffic, which naturally leads to congestion—something a dual carriageway could alleviate.

Safety is another major concern. There are already “High Accident Area” warning signs, underscoring the real risks faced by drivers each day. Congested roads increase the likelihood of accidents, endangering everyone from daily commuters to heavy goods vehicle drivers.

The lack of capacity also affects emergency services trying to respond to incidents along this critical route. Valuable time is squandered weaving through traffic, impacting their ability to provide timely assistance.

We propose the transformation of the A16 into a dual carriageway lane, a necessary step to reduce congestion, improve safety, and support local economies.

This upgrade would not only make travel more efficient but also significantly reduce the number of accidents. A dual carriageway would provide a safer and more reliable route, benefitting thousands who rely on this road daily.

By investing in this road infrastructure, local authorities can ensure that South Lincolnshire continues to thrive, attracting businesses and improving quality of life for residents.
