The Issue

We, the residents and concerned members of the Te Atatū Peninsula community, are calling for urgent action to address the increasing threat of reckless driving on our streets.

Why This Matters

Another serious car crash has just occurred in Te Atatū Peninsula, knocking out power for many homes. While the full details are still unclear, one thing is painfully obvious reckless driving is still putting lives at risk. Earlier this year, I (Pawanjit Singh Ghatora) was struck by a speeding car on Te Atatū Road and lost my leg above the knee. That horrific moment changed my life forever, not because of anything I did wrong, but because someone else chose to drive irresponsibly. Sadly, nothing seems to be changing. Every day, we witness people using Te Atatū Peninsula main roads as if they were racetracks. It’s not a matter of if another serious accident will happen, but when.

What We’re Demanding

We urge Auckland Transport (AT), the NZ Police, and Auckland Council to take the following actions without further delay:

  1. Start immediate speed monitoring on main roads to collect data and assess risk levels
  2. Make Te Atatu Peninsula a “home and school zone” with a speed limit of 30 kph on residential streets (50 kph on main arterials) with safe road design features such as speed bumps, road narrowing, or raised pedestrian crossings
  3. Install speed cameras in known high-risk areas for regular and automated monitoring
  4. Increase police presence on Te Atatū Peninsula roads to deter reckless and dangerous driving

Who This Affects

·       Our children walking to school

·       Our elderly crossing the road

·       Our cyclists and pedestrians

·       All of us who simply want to travel safely through our neighbourhood

Everyone deserves to feel safe on the streets we call home.

Let’s Take Action — Together

This is not just about accidents instead it’s about accountability, safety, and community. Let's raise our voices and show the decision-makers that Te Atatū Peninsula will not wait for another tragedy to act.
