Postpone Graduation at Gwynedd Mercy University rather than cancel it or do it virtually
The Issue
IF the 2020 Graduation ceremony cannot take place as scheduled.....
Postpone Class of 2020's Graduation
To the Gwynedd Mercy University administration,
Universities across our area continue to struggle with the fallout of the coronavirus pandemic. Graduating students are left wondering the fate of their spring commencement ceremonies. While we are aware that this is a decision that is still in the process of being made, we ask and recommend that Gwynedd Mercy University choose to postpone its 2020 commencement ceremonies - even if indefinitely - rather than choosing to cancel the events or hold them online. IF a conclusion is made that it cannot go on as planned, we ask that it be postponed until we can have the whole ceremony.
Students who are graduating deserve to celebrate and have their hard work and effort acknowledged! We deserve to wear the cap and gown and walk across the stage to receive our diploma while our closest friends, family, and instructors (who all helped us get to this point) watch on!
Its so important that we get the chance to turn the page to the next chapter with all of the people who have been there with us. This chapter has been challenging but also very rewarding!
Moreover, graduation gives the students the opportunity to honor and thank all of those who have helped them succeed! So many families make sacrifices for their children to go to college. They need to be celebrated! Your professors from Freshmen year get to see just how far you have come. The teachers that have become mentors and good friends....We want to thank them and take a minute to appreciate them.
Gwynedd has already taken all of the appropriate precautions in order to keep their Griffin Family safe and healthy. They are working tirelessly to come up with a plan for those who are set to graduate after this semester and a lot has been asked of them over these past 2 weeks.
For the past 3, 4, maybe even 5 years, GMercyU has been our home away from home. We lived in the dorms, commuted from other states, made life-long friendships and got the education needed to succeed in this next chapter of our life! We dont care if we postpone the ceremony to 2020 Summer or 2021 Spring. It is worth the wait.
Thank you for your consideration! We are excited to continue this discussion as we all try to cope with what is happening.
