The Issue

Sunnyside is a growing and active neighborhood, but none of its subway stations are fully ADA accessible. That means seniors, people with disabilities, parents with strollers, and residents with injuries are forced to deal with stairs, longer routes, and unnecessary barriers just to use public transportation. For many people, this affects work, school, medical appointments, and daily life. Public transit should be available to everyone, not only to people who can use stairs.

We are calling on the MTA and local city leaders to prioritize accessibility upgrades in Sunnyside and begin planning for elevators at the stations that residents use most. We also want clear public timelines, regular updates, and temporary support while these improvements are being planned. Accessibility is not a luxury. It is a basic right, and Sunnyside should not be left behind.

By signing this petition, you are supporting a more inclusive Sunnyside where every resident can travel safely, independently, and with dignity.
