The issue

With the current cost of living crisis, the financial burden on workers is escalating rapidly. For myself and countless colleagues employed at Pacific Fair Shopping Centre, the expense of daily parking is a significant financial strain. On top of other living expenses, paying for parking eats away at our hard-earned wages. With the potential savings from reduced parking costs, we could each save hundreds of dollars annually. This money could go towards necessities, easing financial pressure.

Unlike other shopping centres in the local Gold Coast area, Pacific Fair charges its staff for parking if they exceed five hours, while others provide free parking for employees. As staff members, we make substantial contributions to the success and smooth operation of the centre. Requiring us to shoulder this parking expense feels like an unfair penalty, especially considering that we are the ones who spend more than five hours at the centre regularly.

It's paramount that Pacific Fair Shopping Centre reconsiders its parking policies, either by abolishing the fees entirely or reducing them to a more reasonable rate, such as $1 per day. Doing so would demonstrate an acknowledgment of staff members' dedication and mitigate the financial stress they face daily. It would bring Pacific Fair in line with other local shopping centres, offering a fair and supportive work environment.

We urge the management at Pacific Fair Shopping Centre to take immediate action to adjust the parking fee structure for its hardworking staff. Please join us in advocating for change. Sign the petition to support fair parking policies for employees!
