As a part of the 60% of families who experience financial strain due to their children's sports activities, I understand the struggle and the heartbreak that comes with not being able to afford your child's passion. Sports are more than just games, they teach children valuable life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. However, the high cost associated with participating in sports is creating an accessibility gap.

According to The Aspen Institute's Project Play initiative, only 34% of children from low-income families participate in team sports compared to 69% from high-income families. This disparity is not just unfair, it denies children from low-income households the benefits that come with participating in sports.

We need change. We need our local governments and schools to invest more into making sports accessible for all kids regardless of their family’s financial status. We call on policy makers and school boards across the country to prioritize funding for youth sports programs and make them affordable for everyone.
