Thousands of people qualify as a solicitor each year. Despite the majority being from outside the city, the formal admissions ceremony hosted by The Law Society is only held in London. 

I qualified as a solicitor in 2018. Due to expensive train fares and accommodation costs, I could not afford to attend my ceremony in London. I know that many others are in the same boat as I was, today. 

Although this shouldn't be a barrier, this petition is about way more than affordability. If we are to truly make the profession a more accessible place, we must create a warmer welcome for those who are based outside of the capital. 

Hosting the admissions ceremony in London only is holding us back from dispelling archaic views of the profession.
