Make Rolling Coal Illegal in Nebraska and Save Our State's Future

The Issue

Imagine it's a warm, sunny day and you're taking a nice bike ride down to the park, when all of a sudden a truck roars by spewing thick, black clouds of smoke at you. This is something called rolling coal, which has majorly contributed to air pollution, yet is somehow legal in all but 6 states.

Rolling coal is when you modify your truck so you can choose when you want it to spew smoke. It is used by many truck drivers to look "cool," as well as to target people and causes they don't like such as protesters for Black Lives Matter, LGBTQ, electric car drivers, and even just to stick it to the EPA(Environmental Protection Agency). The EPA says that rolling coal violates the Clean Air Act, making it illegal. However, while the states have laws that limit the amount of smoke you can emit and other things along those lines, 44 of them do not explicitly ban rolling coal, Nebraska included.

The air pollution produced from just 500,000 cars rolling coal emits about 9 million trucks worth of excess emissions. Air pollution can be dangerous, even deadly for the thousands upon thousands of Nebraskans with respiratory problems or diseases. On top of that, it harms the environment by causing acid rain, blocking sunlight, harming forests, wildlife, and even agriculture, a major part of Nebraska's economy.

Knowing all this, let me ask you if this is the future you would like our state to see. A downfall in the agricultural economy, clouds of smoke casting the state into darkness, innocent people and animals dying, and acid rain pouring down from the sky? It's sad to say it, but if we don't make rolling coal illegal, you'll be seeing that future sooner than you think. We need to stop this and we need to do it now, and YOU can help by signing this petition and making the state of Nebraska listen to what we have to say. Because if we don't, who else will?
