Make Rocket League Fun Again
The Issue
Dear Rocket League colleagues,
My history with this game started on August 10th, 2015. Since day time I spent over 2,200 hours, enjoying this game, the community that overgrew around this title is stunning. However, I am sorely troubled about condition of the game, thanks to the Epic Games.
Firstly, on December 5th, 2023, game developer - Psyonix, released a patch v2.38, which contained Player-to-Player trading removal. When trading was introduced, players could gather together, interact together, even get to know each other. For years, trading system was the cornerstone of the game. On my own example, I felt well among other "traders" and was able to meet new, nice people. Not to mention many Trading-Pricing sites with up to date prices or traders database. This only exposed how the Rocket League community was gathering around trading system and interacted with-in this ecosystem.
Players were surely able to get their beloved or wanted items after purchasing credits or by acquiring them from other trades. Nowadays, obtaining a desired item is impossible, the reasons are:
- Low amount of items displayed at shop in one cycle.
- Long time before the shop refreshes.
- Items from so called "bundles" are not popular among players. As for the moment of writing this petition in bundles we can find for example: Jackal, Twinzer: Muddy, Wrench-Rollers or Wet Paint.
- In Rocket League we have hundreds of items, many more if we take into consideration color or certification. Chances the item we would like to get will be displayed in the shop are minimal.
Going futher, Blueprints&Credits system is not a "Pro" of Rocket League, moreover - its impact on the game might decreased due to points mentioned above (Trading removal). People won't tend to spend much money on items, they can't further monetize by trading. Prices are high - it is obvious this system pointed to earning money by Epic Games, not to satisfy the players. And this system is not transparent, as it was with Crates&Keys system. Of course, C&K was not ideal but more transparent and more affordable for average player.
As it goes for Rocket Pass and seasonal rewards:
- Nowadays items from Rocket Pass are totally senseless. Supporter, Grungy or Savage Spray wheels? Poorly designed with low quality Power Chord goal explosion? We demand new designers team for designing Rocket League Rocket Pass items. The concept of upgrading Pass car alongside Pass progress, like it was with Mudcat, Maverick or Tyranno, was on point, it is hard to come up with a reason why developers removed that concept. Players need to see and feel, that their time and money effort is worth it.
- Seasonal rewards became poor and repetitive over years, mainly because developers mostly exploit wheels as a reward, but as we know, there are also Bodies or Titles, that weren't exploited. They need to be refreshed.
Epic Games need to stand down and let Rocket League be its own unique and stand-alone game. Making Rocket League as some kind of step for Fortnite to thrive or prosper by introducing RL to Fortnite or merging items from two games is disgusting and shows that Epic cares only about marketing - not the experience of the players. Rocket League with proper economic and trading system can still generate a profit, as I believe it is what values the most for Epic, considering the place where we are right now. Economic system should be reworked, current system is unacceptable.
I hope that Epic Games takes into consideration advices above in order to stop this madness.
