The Issue

Taekwondo is globally recognized in the Olympics only through its combat form, Sparring (Kyorugi). While we celebrate our fighters, the Olympic program currently excludes the foundational heart of the martial art: Poomsae.

As a global community of practitioners, masters, and fans representing over 77 nations, we believe the "art" in martial arts deserves the world's most prestigious stage. Poomsae is not just a performance; it is a high-level test of explosive power, technical perfection, and mental discipline.

Why Poomsae Belongs:

  • Objectivity: The transition to electronic scoring and AI-assisted judging ensures the transparency and fairness required for Olympic standards.
  • Safety & Inclusivity: Poomsae provides an elite, non-combat pathway that promotes athlete longevity and is accessible to a wider demographic of practitioners.
  • Structural Readiness: Following record-breaking participation at the 2024 World Poomsae Championships in Hong Kong, the sport has proven it has the organization and scale for the Games.

Adding Poomsae would also highlight the diversity of taekwondo. It would show the world that taekwondo is not only about fighting but also about discipline, artistry, and lifelong practice. Athletes who dedicate years to mastering poomsae deserve the same recognition as fighters, and the Olympics is the only stage that can truly honor their commitment.

Our Call to Action

We urge the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and World Taekwondo to formally include Poomsae in the Olympic program, beginning with the 2032 Brisbane Games. By doing so, the Olympics would complete the circle of taekwondo, showcasing both combat and form, and giving every athlete the chance to shine.

Sign this petition to tell the IOC that Taekwondo is more than a fight, it is a discipline of form. Join us in ensuring that the art of taekwondo finally takes its rightful place on the Olympic stage.
