The Issue

We, the concerned residents of San Rafael, are petitioning for the immediate establishment of a continuous bike lane along Point San Pedro Road. Currently, cyclists face a dangerous situation where the bike lane is abruptly interrupted, forcing them into traffic where vehicles, including gravel trucks from the Dutra Group, travel at speeds of up to 50 mph.

This discontinuity in the bike lane creates a significant safety hazard, especially for our children who bike to school. The sudden transition from a bike lane to no lane puts young cyclists at risk, catching drivers off guard and increasing the likelihood of serious accidents.

Parents are rightfully concerned about their children’s safety on this road. Without a dedicated, continuous bike lane, we risk not only the safety of our young cyclists but also discourage families from choosing biking as a viable mode of transportation. A safe biking environment is essential for encouraging healthy habits and reducing traffic congestion around our schools, including San Rafael High School, San Pedro Elementary and Glenwood Elementary.

We urge local officials to prioritize the establishment of a continuous bike lane on Point San Pedro Road to protect our children and promote safe routes to school. Let’s work together to ensure a safe community for all road users.

Please sign this petition to advocate for the safety of our children and the well-being of our community. Our children deserve a bike lane and a safe route to school!
