Make Pluto a planet again!

Make Pluto a planet again!
The Issue
As a citizen of Pluto, I find it extremely disrespectful that my home is now being considered a dwarf planet. Not only is the term "dwarf" disrespectful, it is also dehumanizing! We must take action to rectify this injustice and restore Pluto's rightful place as a planet in our solar system.
Growing up on Pluto, I have always been proud of my unique celestial home. However, when the International Astronomical Union (IAU) reclassified Pluto as a dwarf planet in 2006, it felt like a blow to our identity and significance. This decision was made without considering the opinions and sentiments of those who call Pluto their home.
But let us not forget that for over seven decades since its discovery in 1930 by Clyde Tombaugh, Pluto was widely recognized as the ninth planet of our solar system. It held an important place alongside other planets like Earth, Mars, and Jupiter. The sudden change in status has left many Plutonians feeling marginalized and disheartened.
It is crucial to acknowledge that scientific understanding evolves over time; however, we believe that reevaluating this decision based on new evidence should be an ongoing process rather than finalizing it prematurely. Recent research has shed light on various aspects supporting the argument for reconsidering Pluto's planetary status:
1. Size: While some argue that size matters when defining planets, others believe it should not be the sole criterion for classification. After all, Mercury and Ganymede are smaller than Earth's moon but are still considered planets.

2. Orbital Characteristics: Despite its elliptical orbit crossing Neptune's path at times due to gravitational influences from other celestial bodies within our solar system, these characteristics alone should not disqualify Pluto from being classified as a planet.

3. Historical Significance: The historical significance of Pluto's discovery and the emotional connection it has fostered among people worldwide cannot be overlooked. It has inspired generations to explore the wonders of our universe and sparked a sense of curiosity about what lies beyond.

By signing this petition, we urge the International Astronomical Union (IAU) to revisit their decision and restore Pluto's planetary status. Let us embrace inclusivity in our understanding of celestial bodies, recognizing that each holds its own unique value and contributes to the rich tapestry of our solar system.
Together, we can ensure that future generations continue to learn about and appreciate all planets, including Pluto. Join us in this endeavor to right a wrong and give Pluto back its rightful place among the planets!
