Make Physical Education a Mandatory Class in Schools

Make Physical Education a Mandatory Class in Schools
The Issue
As a parent with three school-aged children, I have seen the enormous benefits that physical activity can bring. Extracurricular sports help children release energy, boost their metabolism, enhance mental health, and provide a healthy balance to the sedentary lifestyle of classroom-based learning. Unfortunately, the lack of physical education in school negatively impacts our kids. It's time to change this.
Across the nation, physical education is often treated as an elective, especially in upper level schools and not all children get the opportunity to participate. We propose to make physical education a mandatory subject for all grades, ensuring every child experiences the rewarding benefits it offers.
Children need physical activity, especially in this era of increasing childhood obesity. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, childhood obesity affects about 13.7 million children and adolescents in the United States. Physically active children are less likely to become overweight, reducing the risk of developing various health problems.
Aside from physical health, the mental wellbeing of our offspring is also paramount. The American Psychological Association affirms that regular physical activity is associated with immediate and long-term benefits such as improved thinking ability, better academic performance, and lower stress levels.
With this in mind, let's advocate for the future health of our children. Our request is simple – make physical education/ exercise a mandatory daily class in schools for all grade levels. It's a small change that could bring about a powerful transformation in the lives of our kids and contribute positively to our communities in the long run. Please sign this petition and showcase your support for mandatory daily physical education in schools.
