The issue

Phillips Park has long been a cherished spot for our community, providing a wonderful space for local sporting groups, families, and residents to gather and enjoy recreation. Unfortunately, this once-safe haven has recently become a source of concern and fear for many who frequent it.

Incidents involving unsupervised children and teenagers, some as young as nine years old, are increasingly common. Many of these youths do not speak English, adding to the communication challenges and misunderstandings. This lack of supervision has resulted in unacceptable behaviors, including spitting, furniture being kicked and thrown, and verbal abuse directed toward committee members and residents.

This atmosphere of intimidation and unrest has no place in our community's park. While law enforcement has been called to address some of these incidents, it is clear that the frequent nature of these occurrences requires a long-term solution beyond sporadic police intervention.

We are all in agreement that the safety of our community, our families, and our young children must be a priority. We cannot wait for a serious, irreversible event to occur before action is taken. It's essential that everyone, regardless of language or age, feels safe and welcome in Phillips Park.

We are calling upon local authorities to implement effective, actionable solutions that address these safety concerns. This could include increased patrolling, community engagement programs, language accessibility initiatives, and efforts to promote supervised activities for minors in the park.

Let's work together to restore Phillips Park to its former glory as a safe, welcoming community space for all. Please sign this petition to urge local authorities to take immediate and meaningful action to protect our beloved park.
