This is why I believe squirrels and skunks should be legal as pets in Washington, DC. First, skunks are very clean, just like cats! Many people do not know skunks can be de-scented, but they can! Skunks get along with cats, too. Next, squirrels are very smart, unlike other small animals that are legal as pets in DC, like hamsters and guinea pigs, even though they are related. They are very quiet, too. Squirrels and skunks are good family pets. Skunks can share a litter box with cats. Squirrels bond easily with their owners. Skunks can adapt to your sleep and awake schedule even though they are nocturnal in the wild. Squirrels can learn to perch on your shoulder, like birds but not noisy. Skunks are very simple to feed. They are also easily trained. There should be a law that your skunk has to be de-scented. Skunks are also hypoallergenic! Squirrels are also low maintenance. This is why I think squirrels and skunks should be legal as pets in DC.
