Make Parental Alienation a Crime in the USA

The Issue

For the past four years, I have been heart-wrenchingly separated from my beloved daughter due to parental alienation. My ex-husband has found loopholes in our current legal system that allow him to legally keep me, her loving and devoted parent, away from her life. This isn't just a personal tragedy; it is an act of child abuse, hidden under the veil of legality because parental alienation is not recognized as a crime in Arkansas.

Parental alienation occurs when one parent deliberately damages and undermines the relationship between a child and the other parent, often to gain custody or control. This behavior isn't just unforgivable; it's a direct form of psychological manipulation that can have devastating, lasting effects on both children and their alienated parents. For children, these scars can manifest as trust issues, doubts about self-worth, and complex identity struggles, while alienated parents often face depression, anxiety, and helplessness.

Numerous studies have shown the negative impact of parental alienation on children. According to the American Psychological Association, children who experience parental alienation may develop severe emotional and psychological issues, impacting their academic performance, social interactions, and future relationships. With an increasing number of families torn apart by such practices, it's essential that our laws evolve to protect innocent victims.

Making parental alienation a criminal offense in Arkansas would send a strong message that manipulation in the family court is unacceptable. It would provide a deterrent against such harmful behavior, and more importantly, it would offer families the legal recourse needed to preserve the integrity and love within their family units. Other states have already adopted measures to combat parental alienation, recognizing it as a legitimate form of emotional abuse. Arkansas should join them to ensure the safety and well-being of its children.

I urge the Arkansas State Legislature to take decisive action and amend the law to include parental alienation as a punishable offense. By doing so, we will protect the rights of children to have meaningful relationships with both parents and safeguard the emotional health of countless families across our state.

Please sign this petition to help us bring about this important change. Together, we can make Arkansas a safer place for our children and a more just place for our families.
