Make Pain Count

The issue

Chronic pain affects more than 5.4 million Australians and is Australia’s leading cause of disability. Yet it remains largely invisible in our health system.

Australia counts cancer.
Australia counts diabetes.
Australia counts heart disease.

It's time Australia counted chronic pain.

Without reliable national data, governments cannot fully understand the scale of chronic pain, plan services where they are needed most, or measure whether care is improving.

What is not counted is too easily ignored.

As a result, millions of Australians continue to face barriers to timely diagnosis, effective treatment and appropriate support, while one of our nation's biggest health challenges remains under-recognised in policy and planning.

We call on the Australian Government to make one clear commitment: Make Pain Count by ensuring chronic pain is consistently counted across Australia's health system.

Only then can decisions about healthcare, services and research reflect the true scale of chronic pain.

Sign this petition to help make pain count and ensure millions of Australians living with chronic pain are no longer invisible.
