Cincinnati's spirit shines through on opening day, a day that makes the city come alive in celebration and splendor. 

With the amazing Findlay Market parade, a block party, and festivities all through the workday - it is truly a tradition unlike any other city in the US. No matter the prospects for the season, the city turns out in droves in support of our team and as an omen for the warmer Spring days that will follow. An electric spark that drives the city forward till the lazy dog days of summer. 

However, it is not an official city holiday. 

It is definitely an unofficial one, with Cincinnati perhaps being the one city in America where calling off work or picking up your kid for "a doctor appointment with Dr. Redlegs" for opening day is not seen as taboo. 

There have been attempts in the past to make it official. But alas it is still not officially in the books as a city holiday. 

This petition thereby asks The City of Cincinnati to declare Opening Day for the Reds, whenever day it falls, to be an official city holiday starting next year in 2026. Let's finally officially recognize an incredible holiday and tradition for the City of Cincinnati!
