Make Oakville Safe Again - Mandate a multi level government task force for CHANGE!
The Issue
As Oakville residents we have seen a drastic decline in safety in our homes and community. We no longer recognize Oakville as a safe town. We are ridden with thefts and crime that are increasing and becoming more severe in nature. Residents have formed safety watch groups, invested in enhanced security systems, film for windows and private surveillance. Despite these measures, fear and uncertainty still exist because the trajectory of crime and severity has not been met with the same urgency, action or assurances from the government.
Simply put on behalf of residents in Oakville - the level of crime is intolerable and unacceptable and so is the response from the government.
At a time where there has been an increase in the number of crimes committed and more importantly, the severity of those crimes has reached an all-time high, what is required is crisis management, leadership, drastic change, and action; both proactively and reactively. It begins with acceptance of the issue, willingness and focused effort by residents and members of government to make improvements and drive real change to ensure that our communities are perceived and actually safe again.
We are distressed by the seeming lack of strategic unity and inability to address our safety concerns from stakeholders thus far. It's time we moved away from the singular political approach, blame game, and overall lack of responsibility and create and execute a plan to make Oakville safe again. The situation calls desperately for collective action, collaboration, transparency and accountability from all relevant stakeholders.
The residents of Oakville are requesting the formation of a safety task force which will not only be a beacon of hope for those living in fear; but will drive real change, show the urgency and seriousness of the situation and address these growing crime rates in a tangible way.
We deserve to feel safe in our homes, on our streets, and anywhere in the city we call home. We are hereby formally reclaiming the need for safety and serenity in our beloved town.
This task force will include participation from:
Federal (Anita Anand and/or her delegate)
Provincial (Stephen Crawford and/or his delegate)
Municipal (Rob Burton and/or his delegate)
Police (Stephen Tanner and/or his delegate)
Resident(s) of Oakville
We request that the safety task force stakeholders meet to develop a crisis plan/strategic plan that is communicated and actioned by all levels of government in the short and long term. This is an ongoing team that will eliminate the crime levels that we are experiencing.
An in person public meeting is requested on Oct 16th for the public to hear the progress of the task force and to empower all residents to also be part of the solution.
Sign this petition to call on all levels of government to collaborate, take responsibility for our concerns and mandate the formation of a safety task force in Oakville.
With leadership and focus we will all make Oakville safe again.
