Make North Carolina a No-Kill State for Shelter Animals

The Issue

Every year, countless innocent animals are euthanized in North Carolina shelters simply because there aren't enough homes available and people aren't taking responsibility for spaying and neutering their pets. This tragedy persists because of human neglect, not because these animals deserve to die. As a state, we should be ashamed that we are ranked second or third in the nation for highest euthanasia rates. It's time for a change.

I started this petition because I believe that being born should not be a death sentence for these animals. Animals are not at fault for their circumstances, and it is unjust to penalize them for human irresponsibility. Shelters should be a refuge, not a place where hope ends.

A no-kill policy for shelters means that healthy or treatable animals are not euthanized even when the shelter is full, reserving euthanasia only for those animals suffering from an incurable illness or injury. We can make this vision a reality in North Carolina by implementing a comprehensive animal welfare strategy: promoting and subsidizing spay/neuter programs, increasing funding for shelters, and supporting foster and adoption networks to ensure every animal finds a loving home.

By becoming a no-kill state, North Carolina can set a compassionate precedent for others to follow. Please join me in calling on state legislators, local governments, and community leaders to make North Carolina a no-kill state, saving countless innocent lives and setting an example of compassion and responsibility. Our animals deserve better, and together, we can make it happen.

Sign this petition to help make North Carolina a shining example of compassion and change for shelter animals.
