Make Mounjaro accessible on the NHS for women with PCOS
The Issue
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) affects up to 13% of women of reproductive age - over 120 million worldwide - yet it remains one of the most under-treated endocrine disorders. For decades, women have been told to “come back when you want children,” leaving them to suffer with symptoms like irregular periods, weight gain, insulin resistance, infertility, and mental health struggles without meaningful support.
Mounjaro (tirzepatide) has shown unprecedented results in tackling the root causes of PCOS and other metabolic conditions. For many, it is not just about weight loss - it’s about reversing a chronic condition, restoring menstrual cycles, and regaining quality of life.
But now, reports suggest that UK prices for Mounjaro may triple, putting it out of reach for thousands who already struggle to access it through the NHS. This will push desperate patients towards unregulated online pharmacies, unsafe alternatives, or financial hardship - when a safe, regulated, cost-price supply could transform lives and reduce future NHS costs.
We call on MPs to:
- Debate the inclusion of Mounjaro in NHS treatment pathways for PCOS.
- Expand funding for research into the benefits of Mounjaro for women with PCOS.
- In the short term, to both prevent inaccessibility to Mounjaro through private price hikes and ensure safe, controlled access, provide Mounjaro to women with PCOS at cost price.
