Why this petition matters

Started by Kimberly Gallant

We, the Concerned Citizens of Moncton are demanding immediate action from our Mayor and City Council with regard to Public Safety concerns and Visible Criminal Activity in our neighborhoods.

We;

  • No longer feel safe walking the streets of our neighborhoods due to increased criminal activities both during the day and night, as well as the visible presence of those committing the infractions.  Examples; individuals on bicycles with trailers trespassing and committing thefts  on our properties and home invasions, visible drug use/paraphernalia on our school playgrounds and parks, prowlers at night trespassing and shining lights in our windows.
  • Are experiencing constant thefts from our properties - repetitive break-ins, damage and thefts from our homes, vehicles, RVs, baby barns, garages, and yards.  This has resulted both in financial loss, increased anxiety among residents, and increased insurance premiums/deductibles as our neighborhoods are now deemed high risk for crime.
  • Are seeing rapid growth of tent communities which have been built with, and contain items stolen from our properties.  Trucks have been seen frequenting these locations, subsequently loading stolen goods, transferring those goods to storage lockers for future sale.  These communities are unsafe, unsightly and have damaged and closed our riverfront walking/biking trail as well as posed danger to those using the trails on the perimeters of Centennial park as well as other locations. Illegal drug purchase/sale and use is rampant in these locations.  Individuals residing in these locations are verbally abusive and violent.
  • Do not have adequate law enforcement presence in our neighborhoods. Children are not safe on in our parks and playgrounds. Example; when an individual smoking a meth pipe was staggering in Bessborough Park while children were walking home from school at 2 p.m., RCMP were called by a resident, only to be told to call Community Policing, only to be told they were busy but would add it to their evening roster. A senior lady out for her morning walk on Mount Royal Blvd. had to witness a man urinating on the sidewalk and yelling profanities.  University and College students walk to and from their studies in fear.

The above is a small sampling of a HUGE PROBLEM, and does not correlate with the constant chant from our City Officials "Moving Moncton Forward".  We, the Citizens of Moncton are frustrated, and traumatized! We cannot comprehend why the public safety of residents and their families has become an irrelevant concern of our Mayor and Council and the city where we have chosen to work,  live and pay taxes has been allowed to deteriorate to this extent.

WE NEED CHANGE! WE WANT OUR HOMES BACK!  WE WANT SAFETY FOR OUR FAMILIES! WE WANT ACTION AND RESULTS FROM THOSE WITH AUTHORITY IN OUR CITY!
