The United States is a country that is known for welcoming and assimilating cultures from around the world into its own melting pot of culture.

That’s what makes this country great. However because of this wonderful quality, it can be hard to pin down things that are truly and uniquely a celebration of American culture. Things that represent not where people came from before getting here, but what they celebrate and enjoy once they are here.

Baseball is one of those things.

It is called “America’s past time” for a reason, and has had a major impact on our sports, political, and social cultures over its long life time here in the states.

We the people would find it appropriate that Americans across the country get the opportunity to spend a day celebrating and cheering for our greatest cultural export by taking time to observe Opening Day as a federal holiday similar to the way we celebrate our country’s pride on the 4th of July.

This holiday will be observed on the first day of the MLB regular season every year, as a chance to appreciate something that is the true embodiment of American culture.
