Make Michigan the 30th constitutional carry state in the nation

The Issue

As of early 2026, 29 out of the 50 US states have adopted constitutional concealed carry. In these states, citizens who are lawfully permitted to purchase and conceal carry pistols may do so without requiring a permit.

Michigan is not a permit-less concealed carry state, but that could change. House bills 5653 through 5657 was introduced by House Republicans to eliminate the requirements for law-abiding gun owners to obtain a CPL (Concealed Pistol License) in Michigan. Citing NRA-ILA on their website:

"House Bill 5653 removes the requirement that law-abiding citizens obtain a permit before carrying a concealed pistol.

House Bills 5655, 5656, and 5657 make necessary updates to Michigan statutes so that individuals who may lawfully possess a firearm are not penalized for carrying a concealed pistol without a permit if Constitutional Carry is enacted.

House Bill 5654 repeals additional provisions tied to Michigan’s current concealed pistol licensing requirements to ensure the law is applied consistently."

As a supporter and exerciser of the 2nd amendment, I believe that obtaining what is basically a permission slip by the government to exercise a right is unconstitutional, because the 2nd amendment IS my permit, as much as it is yours. And besides, having to ask the government for permission to exercise a right, isn't a right. We don't need government permission to go to church or to get due process, so why do we need permission to bear arms?

So I urge every law-abiding gun owner in Michigan to sign this petition, share it with any gun owners you know, and to get our state lawmakers (yes, including [and especially] those in the Democrat-controlled Senate) to pass House bills 5653-5657.

In addition, I urge you to directly contact said lawmakers via phone and email to help the bills succeed. Don't let the fact that these bills are likely to fail deter you from contacting our lawmakers. The voices of a demanding people will grow louder until their demands are met.

The last year has given us victories of various degrees for the 2nd amendment nationwide. Let's keep up this winning streak and push for permit-less concealed carry in the great lakes state.
