The Issue

To the beneficent Florida Department of State, Mayor Suarez and members of the city council,

You surely know that our beloved Miami is ranked as one of most dog loving cities on Earth, and we Brickellites are no exception.  While our neighbors in downtown, Edgewater, and elsewhere have nearby dog parks designated where their canine friends can be free to play, we have nothing in Brickell.

The recent renovations at the Miami Circle had their intended purpose and have protected the ancient circle and respected the Tequesta people as is right.  But even their leader spoke and said as long as the site is respected and protected (as it now is), she thought the idea of animals playing freely there was not only acceptable, but good.

Instead of periodically terrorizing the otherwise beautiful dog gatherings that normally occur almost daily and ticketing good law abiding tax paying citizens of the city, we should put a pretty little fence around the park boundaries, and declare it officially as an off-leash park for our beloved friends.  The cost will be minimal.  We already pay very high taxes to own property in Brickell.  So we deserve to have a dog park of our own.

Please Mayor Suarez, members of the city council, and administrators of the Florida Department of State who own the land!  Do the right thing for our beloved dogs of Brickell, and we the voting taxpayers who love them, and make Miami Circle a park for them to run and play and be free together.  It honors the Tequesta, and all who ever lived there, for life to be celebrated with such sheer joy that the dogs bring to the field every day they can play there.
