Make Mental Health Education Mandatory in School

Make Mental Health Education Mandatory in School

The Issue

As a concerned citizen and advocate for mental wellness and I've witnessed the devastating impact of untreated mental health issues on students, families, and communities. The alarming rise in anxiety, depression, and suicide rates among young people underscores the urgent need for practice support. We urge governments and educational institutions to integrate comprehensive mental health education, into school curricula. It has emotional intelligence and self-awareness, and also stress management and coping techniques. It's important because it normalizes mental health discussions and identifying issues before they escalate.

The Philippines faces a growing mental health crisis, particularly among youth. The Covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated this issue, with increased rates of anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts. Despite this, mental health education remains inadequate in Philippine schools. Enhance emotional intelligence, resilience, and coping mechanisms, and early intervention. Mental well-being is crucial for cognitive function and academic success.

Promote a culture of compassion and inclusivity it also integrates comprehensive mental health education into school curricula. It also trains teachers and staff to identify and support student's mental health needs. It ensures accessible school counseling services, it encourage parent-teacher-student collaborations on mental health. Mandatory mental health education from elementary to high school, and allocation of resources for mental health programs and services. It also advocates for regular review and update of mental health education curricula.

We can raise awareness and promote understanding and influence education policy and reform. We can also foster a supportive environment for students. Philippine youth's mental well-being and future. It's really important to us to equipping them with life skills and providing resources for mental health support. We also have consequences of inaction, and it is to increased mental health issues.
