Make Maine the Next State to Allow Lesbian and Gay Couples to Marry

The Maine Senate just passed bill LD 1020 giving lesbian and gay couples the ability to marry in the state. The bill will be heard in the House early next week where there is support for the bill. The fate of marriage for lesbian and gay couples may rest in the hands of Governor John Baldacci, who has failed to come out in support of marriage for same-sex couples.

Lesbian and gay couples in the state face the same problems and deserve the same legal protections and recognition as straight couples. Please send the following letter to Governor Baldacci explaining that marriage is the only fair way to treat lesbian and gay couples in Maine. A message will also be sent to your representative so that he or she knows that you support LD 1020
