The Issue

Every day, residents of Jersey City, especially in Jersey City Heights, are faced with unfair parking challenges that significantly impact our lives. I personally have received 6 parking tickets this month alone. I've had to make the heart-wrenching decision between buying groceries and delaying other essential bills just to pay fines imposed by the city. This isn't just a financial burden—it's an emotional and psychological one too.

Parking enforcement officers, who should be safeguarding our community, instead seem to target us, creating an environment where we feel harassed and unfairly treated. Many residents feel the same, gathering early in the morning to move our cars by the 7 AM deadline due to the fear of yet another ticket. This is not just an inconvenience; it’s a struggle that affects the quality of our daily lives.

Lot40 used to be a haven for residents, a place where we could park without the constant worry of time limits and tickets. Now, it has become another source of stress. Many of us don't have access to private parking and rely heavily on the availability of public spaces. However, it seems that we are being punished for using them.

If the city's intention is not to allocate the funds collected from these fines towards building better parking facilities for us, then the least that can be done is to make Lot40 a worry-free zone, as it once was. By reopening Lot40 for free parking, Jersey City can demonstrate its commitment to the welfare and support of its residents rather than contribute to their distress.

This is a call to our city officials to show empathy and support towards our community. Relieve us from this unjust pressure, and in doing so, help us regain a sense of peace and security in our own neighborhood.

Please sign this petition to urge Jersey City to make Lot40 free for residents, ensuring fair and accessible parking for all.
