Make London's Traffic More Efficient: Allow Cars in Bus Lanes,Prolong Green Traffic Lights

The Issue

I am a Londoner who experiences first-hand the frustrating gridlock that is a daily reality in our city. Every day, I, along with millions of others, spend critical hours stuck in traffic, hours that could be devoted to family, productivity, rest, or leisure. This isn't just an inconvenience, it is a serious burden that hampers our day-to-day living.

To help alleviate this problem, I propose two primary changes: allow cars to utilise bus lanes, and increase the duration of green traffic light signals.

Opening up bus lanes for cars during off-peak hours could significantly boost traffic flow and reduce congestion. Cities like Sydney have implemented similar policies, leading to more efficient commutes and less time spent in traffic. It's time that London considers these measures.

Additionally, lengthening the duration of green traffic lights ensures moving traffic has more time to flow through intersections. With London's current population of over 8 million people, it is vital that our road systems maximise efficiency.

While we respect the aim of current policies to promote public transport and cycling, the reality is that many of us still rely on cars for our commutes. By implementing these changes, we're not discarding the importance of public transportation or eco-friendly transport methods, but simply optimising the existing systems that millions of us depend upon daily.

Efficient traffic flow is not just a convenience, it's a necessity for a productive and healthy city life. For this reason, I urge you to take these proposals into consideration. It may seem like a small step, but for people like myself who spend an unwarranted amount of time in traffic, this could mean the difference between wasted hours and valuable time.

Please sign this petition to support the proposal of allowing cars to use bus lanes during off-peak hours and extending the duration of green traffic lights for a better, more efficient London.
