Make LMU a Closed Campus Again

The Issue

On July 17th at 10:40am a random man came up to me and asked if school was in session. I replied “No.” He then asked me what date does everyone come back to school. I answered with the date feeling uneasy. [There have been many potential students visiting with their families over the summer and I had gotten used to helping them get around and answering any questions they needed. However, this man was probably in his early 30s with no children.] After a few moments, I asked him why he was asking me. He grinned at me very creepily and walked away. I got a very bad feeling about him and decided to call Public Safety. They did not find him, but when I was on my way back to my apartment around 12:30pm I saw him walking towards my apartment building. I called Public Safety immediately. After a couple of minutes, he walked back outside to Leavey Circle and started to follow me. Then, Public Safety arrived and he was escorted off campus. I no longer feel safe on LMU's campus. I asked a Public Safety officer if we were going to be a closed campus during the school year. She said now that COVID restrictions are lifted, LMU will be an open campus. After this experience, I feel the need to create this petition to keep the LMU community safe. For the safety of our students and faculty, I believe that LMU should go back to being a closed campus.
