The Issue

We the people

Of Tavares and Eustis who appreciate emerald lake shore drive and the wildlife that calls it home hereby respectfully request enhanced enforcement of noise and speed and traffic flow enforcement and controls. These limitations support the important government purposes of protecting property values. The lakeshore drive corridor is home to  natural wildlife treasures such as bald eagles, foxes, bobcats, armadillos, raccoons, wild Turkey , redtail hawks, bard owls, bear, coyotes, alligators, frogs, turtles, water snakes, water fowl, foxes, all of which are frequently killed by speeders and traumatized by folks who endeavor to impress the residents and animals with how loud they can play their car stereos or  how loud they can make their engines sound by virtue of special noise making exhaust systems at all hours of the day and night. These selfish practices also disturb people including children who are trying to sleep or enjoy the breathtaking lake view vistas from front porches along lake shore drive.

Wherefore, we the people, respectfully request said enhanced enforcement by the following mechanisms: traffic circles at Clay and Lakeshore Drive; Lakeshore Drive and Eustis Road; speed humps on Clay all the way to Kurt; speed humps on Eustis Road; designate Lakeshore, Clay and Eustis as “Wildlife crossings and children playing streets; increased patrols aimed at enforcement of traffic safety and noise ordinances and laws already in place, as well as the implementation of traffic flow systems that will enhance safety , quiet enjoyment and property values.

We live on Lake Eustis on Lakeshore Drive in Lake County, Florida. It is a place blessed with the natural beauty of native wildlife and tranquil landscapes. My family, including small children, shares this space not only with bald eagles, foxes, bears, armadillos, coyotes, bobcats, wild turkeys, red-tailed hawks, owls, frogs, and alligators, but also with our community neighbors. However, the serenity and ecological balance of our beloved county is under threat due to overdevelopment, noise pollution, and traffic issues.

Lake County, especially areas like the Golden Triangle—Mount Dora, Tavares, and Eustis—has seen rapid urban expansion. While development can bring economic opportunities, it's crucial to strike a balance that protects our rich biodiversity and the well-being of residents. Every year, more natural habitats are being cleared out for new housing developments, disrupting local wildlife and increasing the risk of traffic accidents as animals attempt to navigate the transformed landscape.

Our community's quality of life, property values, and the health of our environment are at stake. A study by the National Wildlife Federation highlights how urban sprawl adversely affects native species' survival and increases human-wildlife conflicts. Without strategic planning, Lake County risks losing its unique charm and biodiversity.

We urge local authorities to implement more stringent regulations on new developments to conserve existing green spaces and protect wildlife corridors. Additionally, more effective zoning laws could be enacted to control noise pollution and traffic congestion.

Protecting our ecosystem is not only a necessity for the wildlife that inhabits it, but for the generations of families who call Lake County home. We ask for the support of everyone to bring attention to this crucial issue and to speak up for the conservation of our environment.

Join us in urging Lake County officials to take immediate action to preserve our natural treasures and make Lake County, Florida, emerald again. Please sign this petition to show your support and help us protect our community and wildlife for a sustainable future.
