Instead of being absent for 8 days before you lose your exemptions, Katy ISD decreased it to 5. This makes it much harder for students and will more likely be detrimental than benefiting their education. Negative effects include but are not limited to: 

1. Spread of illness: As students are pressured to go to school, they may come to school when they are sick and contagious. This will pose a health risk to everyone in the school.
2. Further degrading mental health: This can further negatively impact mental health as they will be forced to go to school even during difficult times.
3. Inequality: Students with medical conditions may have trouble exempting finals even though they have to be absent for treatment.
