Make it treason for Congress to accept bribes and insider trade

Make it treason for Congress to accept bribes and insider trade
The Issue
Every day, countless Americans work hard to make a living, believing in the promise of a democratic system that represents their interests—not those of a privileged few. Sadly, this promise is being compromised by members of Congress who may prioritize personal gain over the needs of their constituents. These elected officials, entrusted with the power to shape our country's future, are indulging in unethical practices like accepting bribes and engaging in insider trading.
When Congress engages in bribery and insider trading, they aren't just breaking the law—they're betraying the very essence of democracy. Such actions are not only unethical but should also be deemed treasonous, as they betray the trust of the American people. The same individuals who are supposed to safeguard public interests are instead exploiting their positions for personal profit.
Insider trading by Congress members is not a hypothetical concern. In 2012, the "Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge Act" (STOCK Act) was passed to prohibit the unfair practice of politicians trading on non-public information. Yet, loopholes and lack of strict enforcement have rendered it ineffective. As a result, many continue to engage in insider trading with limited consequences, undermining the fairness of our markets.
Moreover, the issue of bribery is no less grave. When public servants accept bribes, they cater to special interests while sidelining the voices of ordinary citizens. This manipulates legislative agendas and erodes public confidence in government decisions.
In light of these abuses of power, it's time to classify such actions as acts of treason against the United States. Treason denotes a betrayal of one's country, and there is no greater betrayal than turning one's back on the very people who elected you. By making these actions punishable as treason, we could deter corrupt practices and hold public officials accountable to the highest standard.
Let's push for stricter laws and severe penalties against Congressional misconduct. This is our chance to demand change and restore integrity in our political system. Our democracy depends on it.
Join me and urge your representatives to support legislation that classifies bribery and insider trading by Congress members as treason. Please sign this petition to bring about the change we need to protect American democracy.
