The Issue

I went to the ER at my doctor's demand because my skin appeared to be infected. After being admitted for IV antibiotics and placed in my room, hours later, three men entered without a word, forcibly took me to an ambulance. I was held for four days without being able to contact my family, who couldn't find me. Now, I'm left with PTSD and scars that serve as a constant reminder of this traumatic experience. This false diagnosis followed me to nine specialists who didn't even bother to examine me, and now, I cannot get the care I desperately need in this system. This ordeal compelled me to launch a petition for a profound change that extends beyond my personal experience and seeks justice and compassion for all patients.

Patients across the nation suffer in silence, unable to challenge the authority of medical professionals who dismiss or belittle their experiences. Gaslighting in the medical field must be brought to an end with clear and enforceable patient rights. Currently, patients often find themselves without recourse when a medical professional dismisses their legitimate health concerns, mislabels their symptoms, or resorts to labeling them with psychiatric disorders bypassing thorough medical evaluations.

Our goal is to make it illegal for medical professionals to gaslight patients, thereby protecting the rights and dignity of every patient. We call for the establishment of national patient rights legislation that explicitly prohibits medical gaslighting and enforces tangible consequences proportionate to the negligence or dismissal experienced by the patient. Any fines imposed must directly compensate the affected patients, and offending doctors should be compelled to face their patients, apologize, and take accountability.

Furthermore, we demand that no physician can diagnose a patient as delusional without first ruling out all possible medical explanations and, if necessary, referring them to a qualified psychiatrist for further evaluation.

Many patients are subjected to trauma similar to mine. Imagine countless individuals, suffering in silence, as their legitimate medical concerns are sidelined due to systemic issues in the healthcare system. Implementing such laws will ensure that no other patient endures the hardships I faced, fostering a healthier, more compassionate healthcare environment for everyone.

I urge you to join me in this fight for justice and accountability in the healthcare system. Please sign this petition to demand the establishment of national patient rights and make medical gaslighting illegal, ensuring every patient receives the care and respect they deserve.
