As a previous survivor of sexual abuse I find it very concerning that there seems to be an atmosphere conducive to sexual abuse among our highschool teachers and staff. For years teachers have been caught or fessed up to sexual relationships with students and they have been allowed to resign without backlash, transfer schools to abuse again elsewhere, or not be held accountable at all for their lack of restraint, abuse of authority, and power over a student. 

The latest scandal is apparently not a big deal because of one small caveat, in Illinois it's not illegal to have sex with a 17 year old person or older student.

One small gesture the district can do to restore good faith in them and the high school is to provide a safer highschool experience to the students by making it against district policy to have sexual relations or improper conduct with any of their students of any age. To hold teacher and staff accountable for their actions when they are involved in the act itself or it's cover up.

This new policy would go a long way in making parents feel safer about dropping their children off to be in the care of GCHS.

If the district will not inact this new policy then they need to explain themselves to the community in an open in person dialogue.
