Far too often, we see children suffering due to the misplaced loyalties of their mothers. This issue is close to my heart, as I have witnessed firsthand how damaging it can be when a mother chooses her husband's interests over the safety and well-being of her children. Children suffer in silence, trapped in environments where their needs and security are secondary to keeping a partner happy or maintaining family unity at any cost.

It's time for us to recognize this serious oversight in our legal system and address it with the gravity it demands. Prioritizing the safety and welfare of children must be a legal obligation. Currently, the law does not adequately protect children in households where one parent is more concerned about placating their partner than ensuring their child's well-being.

We are calling for legislation that would hold mothers legally accountable if they neglect their child's needs in favor of their husband's desires. This should extend to cases of domestic abuse, emotional neglect, and any situation where the child is not the primary concern.

The numbers speak for themselves. According to NSPCC, over half a million children in the UK suffer abuse or neglect each year. Many of these cases arise because laws do not actively protect children from parents who fail to prioritize their needs. No child should endure such hardship due to misplaced loyalty.

This change would not only protect our children but also ensure that all parents are held to the same standards of care and responsibility. By making it a criminal offence, we can deter mothers from making harmful choices that negatively impact their children's future.
