Make Inglewood parking permits free for residents
The Issue
I am writing to formally express my concerns regarding the sudden and strict enforcement of residential parking permits in our neighborhood. While the city maintains that this policy has always been in place, it has not historically been enforced. As a result, residents are now receiving daily citations without having received adequate prior notice or reminders.
Many residents were completely unaware of the requirement to register vehicles online and pay a $100 annual fee per permit. Given that residents already contribute significantly to local infrastructure through city taxes, vehicle registration, and insurance, this unexpected financial burden feels excessive and predatory—particularly due to the lack of clear, proactive communication from the city.
I kindly request that the city implement a grace period, wave recent citations for residents, and improve its outreach and notification system before resuming enforcement.
We believe that residents of Inglewood should not have to bear an unexpected financial penalty in order to park in their own neighborhood. Making these parking permits free for residents would alleviate the unintended financial strain, promote goodwill within the community, and ensure that everyone, regardless of their financial situation, has equal access to parking where they live.
I urge the city officials of Inglewood to take these concerns seriously and to consider revisiting the policies surrounding residential parking permits. By making these permits free of charge, we can ensure that our community remains accessible and inviting to all its members. Please join us in advocating for a fair and just solution by signing this petition.
