The Issue

India is a diverse country where millions still prefer Indian-style toilets due to hygiene, health, comfort, and cultural reasons. However, in many public places — such as railway stations, malls, airports, and hotels — only western-style toilets are available.

This creates discomfort and even health risks for:

Elderly people

Pregnant women

People from rural backgrounds

Those with joint or posture-related issues

•)Western toilets, especially in public areas, are often poorly maintained, leading to extreme hygiene concerns.

•)We are not asking to remove western toilets, but to ensure that Indian-style toilets are available alongside western ones — offering people a choice that suits their health and culture.

•)We urge the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Indian Tourism Department, and State Municipal Corporations to:

✅ Mandate inclusion of at least one Indian-style toilet in all new public restroom constructions

✅ Retrofit Indian toilets wherever possible in existing buildings

✅ Encourage hotels, restaurants, and guesthouses to provide both options

Hygiene is a basic right. Comfort is a personal need. Respecting choice is what a progressive India must stand for.
