Kerala no longer deserves to be called God's own country. The dogs are being killed and the feeders and animal welfare organizations are having a harrowing time. A dog was hanged to death (Pic in the post) and a mother dog poisoned to death. The media is only adding fuel to the negative mindset and instigating the masses to hate dogs and kill them. The people of Kerala believe that stray dogs are rabid and a threat to their life. And nothing is being done to bust this myth.

The state govt is also planming to seek approval from the supreme court to allow them to kill all rabid and ferocious dogs. The govt officials are just not aware that it is human menace which has made the dogs ferocious as claimed by them. If we humans are constantly shooed, beaten and kept hungry and thirsty for days together then won't we become ferocious?

The Kerala high court on Wednesday has asked the state government to protect its citizens from the attacks of ferocious dogs by removing them from public spaces. The court also directed for police action to curtail unauthorized killing of dogs by the public. The court has further ordered the government to include the steps taken by it in the action-taken report to be filed before the court by Friday.

Well removing the ferocious dogs from public places may lead to eventually removing all the stray dogs because according to the masses all stray dogs are rabid and wild. And those who today seem to be docile will soon be turned ferocious by inhuman and hostile treatment. None of the dogs born were ferocious. It was our inhuman treatment which made them so unfriendly.

In Dwarka, Delhi a dog was thrown from the tenth floor. Apparently there were two groups of people residing in the apartment. One who used to feed the dogs and another who used to hate them.

All this is the result of wrong policies both at the center and state level. Barring a handful of people there seems to be a dearth of visionaries and sensible people with common sense in the animal sector.

The ABC program is being run just for name sake and in many parts of India it is not even being run so how do we expect the stray dog population to control.

The municipal corporations who are solely responsible for running this program with the help of NGOs are doing it in the most shabby and unsystematic manner. They use a complaint centric approach with zero awareness and no peoples participation.  So how do we expect to control the dog population? Delhi is the best example. Here the corporation has been following this approach since 2002 and we don't see them changing their way. And God alone knows why? Never there has been dog vaccination drives by the corporation. Instead Delhi has witnessed only obnoxious rabies poster which shows dog spreading rabies to humans. So the majority of the people think that stray dogs are all rabid and any bite or scratch by them.will infect them with rabies.

Well all municipal corporations follow a complaint centric approach with no awareness and no peoples participation. And no dog vaccination drives. And no measures taken so far to encourage people to adopt stray dogs as pets.

And to add to the misery  of our Indian stray dogs is the WHO goal of making world canine rabies free by 2030. India too with its Veterinary dept are in the race to achieve this ambitious goal. Is this how they have planned to achieve the goal????

Well don't know about canine rabies free but the kind of mindset and hostile environment our state govts, Veterinary depts, municipal corporations and media have made for our canines, India will certainly become canine free by 2030.
