And the tragic part is that the Kerala govt woke up today to take appropriate measures to stop the man dog conflict. Isn't that too late? The following are the measures proposed by them

1 Identify stray dog hotspots which according to them are places where food is thrown by people. Basically the garbage bins.

2 Vaccination drive to begin soon from.20 September to 30th September.

3 Opening shelters at panchayat level to house the strays.

4 Identifying the locations for vaccinations and ABC centres.

Couldn't the govt take all the above measures sooner. The Dog rules 2001 came in India 20 years back and the most literate state of India has yet to identify locations for making ABC centres. Isn't that a mockery of animal laws. According to the Dog rules 2001 stray dogs should be sterilized and vaccinated. They can neither be relocated nor killed. But this most important law is not being implemented in most parts of India.

And why is the state govt making shelters for housing the stray at panchayat level? Only ABC centres should be made so that once the dog is sterilized it is dropped back at its original location. Instead of making shelters to house the stray the Govt can think of making Veterinary hospitals for injured and sick stray animals.

Also just by getting the stray dog sterilized and vaccinated the man dog conflict won't end. The govt has also to educate their people. Educate them about dog behaviour and encourage them to adopt dogs as pets. Dogs bite due to provocation and man always provokes them by shooing them.away, beating them, deprving them of food and water. Dogs just like humans need food, water and love. But insteas what are they getting? Hunger, thirst, hatred, beating, poison.....

A woman in Agra, Uttar Pradesh has beaten a dog mercilessly by catching hold of his tail and smashing his face on the ground that too several times. And she did this because she felt that the dog bit her daughter on her lips. The reporter did not find any biting mark on the lips. The monstrous lady had no remorse for what she did.
