Just two days back a female dog who was sterilised and was loved and fed daily by her caregivers was hit by a Scorpio car. The speeding car came running into the poor dog and smashed her and the driver not once stopped the car or applied brakes to see what he or she had done. The dog's back was instantly fractured ( pic in the post). The fracture was so bad that her back limbs got twisted backwards. She suffered and cried for one full hour till she left for her heavenly abode. The accident took place in a residential colony of Delhi around 10 PM on 7th August 2020. The caregivers had no idea what to do so they contacted a caregiver Nancy (M-9560176384) who now lives in Lucknow. Nancy then contacted people in Delhi who could provide the injured dog with medical help. But before the ambulance could pick her up the unfortunate dog was already gone.
The next day the caregivers of the area Shalini ( M-8595890905) and Shanti (M- (918929307936) tried to find out the details of the car but unfortunately the details of the car could not get captured in the CCTV cameras installed in the area.
Last week in the same area a pup was crushed by a speeding car. Again the car was untraceable. Such incidents keep happening all the time in India. The speeding vehicles not only hit small animals like dogs and cats but also big animals like cows, buffaloes, horses and donkeys. However, cases of horses and donkeys is quite low compared to the other street animals.
There are animal laws in India which says such drivers should be punished but just how many of them are punished?
And the question is do people of India know that hitting an animal while driving is a punishable offence?
Also would'nt it be sensible and humane to put a small line along with speed limits on roads and highways either by the municipal corporation or the transport ministry or both saying "kindly drive carefully there may be an animal crossing the road."
When will we humans become humane????
We have become so blind to the suffering of these voiceless souls around us that we just don't realize how cruel we have become.
Watch these videos and you will know how indifferent and insensitive man has become to animal suffering:

While picking up an injured dog or a cat is easy for taking it to a hospital for treatment but picking up an injured cow, buffalo, horse or a donkey is very difficult. They often die on road without any medical assistance. Kudos to all the NGOs who help such victims.

People who hit animals are heartless people who think it's their birth right to hit the animals sitting on the road or crossing the roads. These people often quote examples of developed countries like England and America where there are hardly any animals walking freely on the streets.
Such people suffer from terrible inferiority complex and feel quite ashamed of the street animals of India.
What these silly Indians do not understand is that India is culturally, geographically, ecologically and environmentally very different from these nations. Animals in India have always cohabit with humans. Their population is huge and they are of varied species. Keeping them all in shelters or making sanctuaries for them is neither physically possible nor financially feasible. The government should not even try it because they will be just wasting time and money on such hopeless endeavours.
There is dearth of both space and money in India for making shelters and sanctuaries for such animals. Hence, India has to come out with solutions which helps in peaceful co existence between these voiceless souls and human beings. That's what our ancestors did and that's what is expected of us.
Animal welfare is not only the responsibility of animal lovers, animal rights activists and the ministry and NGOs working for animal welfare alone. Animals should be the responsibility of every Indian citizen and all the Ministries who are directly or indirectly affecting them.
It's time the Transport Ministry both at the centre and the state level should sensitise the drivers of India to be humane and considerate towards animals crossing or sitting on the road.
It is we who have converted their homes into roads and highways so let's at least be kind to them on roads which was once their home.
Many lives can be saved only by sane and humane driving. Saving an animal life will also help in saving human life as most accidents happen due to overspeeding.
Let's hope that the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari who has done a remarkable job by connecting the whole of India with state of the art highways and roads in such a short span also thinks about these voiceless souls who often become victim of ruthless and insane driving.
