Today is the day when India got its freedom from the British rule. On this day every RWA celebrates this historic day with its residents by hoisting flag, singing national anthem, organizing various competitions like singing, dancing, painting etc for young children and also by felicitating it's senior citizens.
Due to Covid 19 pandemic this year has been an exception. Most of the RWAs in India celebrated the day by hoisting flag and singing national anthem but the RWA of Pocket E, Mayur Vihar Phase 2 made history.
Till now we have only seen RWAs as villains. They have been seen getting involved with relocation of dogs, stopping caregivers from feeding, beating them, aiding in killing and poisoning the dogs etc but not once we have heard any RWA felicitating a caregiver for taking care of dogs.
Today the RWA of Pocket E, Mayur Vihar Phase 2 has made an exception by felicitating a young caregiver Sneha on this most auspicious day. They not only hoisted the national flag and sang the national anthem but also felicitated Sneha by sharing the stage with her and giving her a certificate of appreciation (pic in the post). The certificate was given to Sneha by the President of the RWA Davinder Jutla.
Kindly go on the following link to see the felicitation pic and to read how Sneha is feeling:

Sneha (M+919999151328) who is a lawyer by profession just couldn't turn a blind eye to the suffering of the dogs in and around her colony. They were multiplying in number and people in her colony were labeling them as menace. So Sneha decided to get all the dogs sterilized. There are six pockets in Mayur Vihar Phase 2 and Sneha decided to get all the dogs in all the pockets sterilized. She has donated her own car for the purpose. She gets the dogs picked and takes them to the ABC centre. In few months time she has already sterilized more than 100 dogs in her area. And she has decided to get all the dogs in the neighbourhood sterilized. She is doing this with the help of other caregivers of other pockets (A, B, C, D and F) and areas like East and West Vinod Nagar and Mandawali.
Sneha too had her share of fights and quarrels which almost every caregiver in India faces primarily because of ignorance of people about dog rules. Due to sheer ignorance it is the caregivers who are considered villains. They are held responsible for dog population and dog bites. This is utter nonsense. The only way to curtail dog overpopulation is sterilization and dog bites happen due to wrong human behaviour towards them. Caregivers are not responsible for either.
It was one of the members of the RWA Arun Srivastava who saw the valuable contribution which Sneha and her friends were doing for the society and then he tried to bring a change in the mind set of his own peers in the RWA. Thereafter he tried to bring a change in the mindset of the residents of the colony. People who used to fight with caregivers for feeding the dogs earlier have now stopped saying anything to them. Instead many have started feeding the dogs themselves.
People like Arun are a must in every RWA. He may not be a great animal lover or a caregiver himself but he has the wisdom and insight to understand the importance of the ABC programme and the valuable contribution young girls like Sneha and her friends are doing.
The caregivers just want this. A bit of appreciation and support from the people around them.
If any RWA has in true sense celebrated the Independence day it is definitely the Pocket E RWA.
They have not only ensured the safety and security of its own people but also the safety of its four legged friends.
This is the true meaning of free India where both humans and animals can live freely without any fear.
