Now that at many places lock downs have softened and vehicle movements have started the AWBI should come out with necessary directions to the various departments which may harm the  stray animals due to sheer ignorance.

Due to lockdown many  stray animals both dogs and cattles are sitting in the middle of the road. They are walking, running and even sleeping in the middle of the road.

Now suddenly due to ease of movement and vehicles on the streets many will meet with accident. On 7th May 2020 a dog was mercilessly crushed by a vehicle in the city of Indore.

Such sights are nothing new in the heartless cities of India. While big boards about speed limits and honking are put on roads and highways of India there are no boards which says please go slow there might be a stray animal crossing the road. Why are we Indians so blind towards our animals?. Are we Indians ashamed that cows and dogs walk freely on the streets of India?

Are our planners trying to convert Delhi into Shanghai and Mumbai into Dubai?

There is nothing wrong in Shanghai and Dubai.

But every city, town and country has it's own culture and  heritage comprising of its unique flaura and fauna.  Nature has always been very kind to India. But due to lopsided and mindless development and urbanization this richness is deteriorating both in terms of its flaura and  it's fauna.

It's high time the govt at all levels stop turning a blind eye to the community animals which are co existing with us for thousands of years. We cannot kill them or remove them so let's just give them their rightful place in the society. Accept their existence and focus on a balanced and sustainable development, with reduction in their population through humane and legal means.

The problem currently lies with our thought process towards these voiceless souls. Especially the legal custodians of animals in India who take important decisions concerning them. The question is  do the animal welfare ministries and other govt bodies take decisions in their favour or are their decisions solely based on human benefits and human well being?  Do they even give a second thought before giving orders of culling them? Their role during COVID 19 has not been satisfactory at all. Even today many dogs and cats are being killed but what have they done to save them?

Just few days back reports came in from Assam that aound 2500 pigs died of African swine fever. The centre  without giving a second thought gave a go ahead for culling the pigs. However, Atul Bora the Minister of Animal Husbandry of Assam did not find culling the right option. He has formulated various strategies which will help save as many pigs as possible and killing only those which are necessary.

The decision taken by the honourable Minister Atul Bora is not only pro animal but also humane. He has truly justified being the minister of Animal Husbandry. That's his job. He is there for the welfare of animals.

Wish ministers and other people holding positions in the department of animal welfare were as devoted towards animals as he is.

It's time now for the centre to rethink about it's decision. What would have happened to all the pigs of Assam if Minister Bora had gone by their directions?

Why is it that animal right activists like Gauri Maulekhi have to tell people on social media to be careful while driving on roads post lockdown (pic in the post) as they might crush an animal?

Govt departments responsible for animal welfare why can't they think like Gauri? Why doesn't such instructions come from their side?

Do the people working and running such departments have the passion to work for animals?

Because without love for animals one cannot come out with pro animal policies. And love is something which cannot be forced upon.

Hence, it's not the fault of the people holding posts in such departments. The problem is with the system.

The way things work in animal welfare departments need a tremendous change. People who think about the welfare of animals have to be brought into the system.
