COVID 19 has no cure at the moment. The doctors throughout the world are using hit and trial method of treating their patients. On some the trial works and on some it is failing, hence leading to death.
Doctors, scientists and pharmaceutical companies are all trying to find a vaccine for this viral disease.
Let's see a COVID 19 awareness campaign based on the facts known till now about the disease:
"COVID 19 is preventable but if infected may lead to death as there is still no cure.
HOW DOES IT SPREAD?
COVID 19 spreads through the droplets of a human being.
HOW TO PREVENT THE DISEASE
Do not go in close contact of humans
If you have by mistake or deliberately come in contact with any human then go straight to the hospital for treatment."
Any one will laugh at the awareness campaign of COVID 19 and may reprimand the person who has come out with such faulty and misleading information about COVID 19.
The facts which are missing is that the disease will spread to a healthy human only when he comes in contact with a covid infected person
The preventive measures are social distancing, wearing of masks, washing hands and sanitizing the surfaces and oneself.
The simple logic is that we have to kill the virus and save people from catching the disease. And once the vaccine will be ready probably that will be the most effective preventive measure to wipe out the virus from the face of Earth.
Now the East Delhi Municipal Corporation has been putting up large hoardings of rabies awareness throughout East Delhi for the last 3 years (2018, 2019 & 2020) and we have seen how it has negatively impacted the dogs and the caregivers. The dog -man and man- man conflict has only increased
The 2018 rabies awareness ( pic in the post) says the following:
"Rabies prevention is easy but once infected it is 100 percent fatal.
Do not neglect a bite or a scratch of a dog, monkey, cat, rat & mongoose.
Wash the bitten area with soap and water
Then for anti rabies vaccination and medication go to the doctor".
The awareness campaign is not only incomplete but gives information which creates only fear in the minds of the people for the man's best freind.
The following points are completely missing which should have been there:
1 it does not discriminate between a rabid dog and a normal dog. It just says a bite or a scratch from a dog which means any dog.
If that is the case then why do people annually get their dogs vaccinated and why have the doctors put so much of hard work in getting rabies vaccine made. It's so unfortunate that there is rabies vaccine and instead of focusing on getting all the dogs of Delhi vaccinated they are telling people to be afraid of dogs because any dog may be a threat to their life.
2 They are giving no information about rabies. The disease is spread through the saliva of an infected animal, hence the teeth of the dogs are not poisonous. They just become a means of spreading, as when they bite or scratch with their nails their infected saliva may enter the human body. People after seeing this hoarding have started believing that the dogs have venom in their teeth and nails.
3 See the picture of the dog in the hoarding. After seeing the picture and reading all the rubbish even pet owners will abandon their dogs. And who knows they might have.
4 No where the hoarding mentions about the ABC programme and rabies vaccination for dogs. These two are the only 100 percent preventive measures from being infected by canine rabies. We have to stop the disease from hapoening and not wait till the dog is infected by it.
The EDMC is actually asking humans to maintain social distancing from the man's best friend and if bitten or scratched by him then go to the doctor and get anti rabies shots.
This most obnoxious and misleading awareness has been happening for the last three years with slight changes but the core is the same. Kindly go to the following link to see the post of October 2019:
And then they did it again in the month of March 2020. While the whole world was fighting against COVID 19 the EDMC was fighting against rabies. Would it be wrong if we say that they have made the life of the caregivers and the dogs a hell by again and again putting up such misleading, incomplete and anti dog information.
Either they should not have shared such an information on canine rabies and if need be then they should have given full information. Their focus should have been on ABC programme and dog vaccination but unfortunately their whole focus is on human vaccination.
God alone knows why is the EDMC focussing so much on human vaccination?
They should be focussing on dog vaccination? Because that alone can make India canine rabies free.
AWBI, MCD, Delhi Govt and Chief Minister of Delhi kindly get these hoardings removed. They are all over East Delhi. In every colony, bus stand, metro stations, market areas etc......
How many more dogs will be killed or abandoned by humans just because they are made to believe that dogs spread rabies and it is 100 percent fatal.
Today every parent is scared and asks his child to be away from dogs.
Instead of encouraging pet keeping the municipal corporation has only created a huge gap between man and man's best friend.
