Kerala has surprised the world with it's remarkable change in its mindset towards community animals especially dogs. We have seen recently how during lockdown their Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has made a public appeal to show kindness to the man's best friend and also encouraged people of Kerala to feed them.
Kerala was in the grip of COVID 19 pandemic and was one of the worst hit states in India at the starting of the lockdown period but barely in a month's time has reduced the numbers drastically. On 16th April there was only one reported case of COVID 19 patient. The way the state govt has cautiously handled the spread of the virus is indeed laudable.
But they did it without wiping out their stray animals and without being nasty and cruel to them. They have used the two tools: Compassion and Caution to fight COVID - 19.
There is another small district of Bhilwara in Rajasthan which has been able to control the COVID 19 pandemic in their region. On 16th April there was not a single patient reported to be infected by the virus. Rajasthan Chief Minister (Ashok Gehlot) was also one of the few Chief Ministers who had made a public appeal to show compassion towards stray animals.
It's really important for the world to know exactly what steps Kerala and Bhilwara took which made them wipe out the cruel virus without harming their stray animals.

The stray dogs were already having a tough time during lockdown due to apathy and indiffference attitude of many state govts and municipal corporation. Now to add to their misery and the misery of their feeders, caregivers and NGOs a research conducted at the University of Ottawa in Canada has come to play havoc on them. Already incidents of dog cruelty have started in many parts of India. Some of prominent news channels (NDTV) and print media like PTI have even started reporting this.
A caregiver Niyati (M - 8800729008) has reported this on whatsapp groups this morning:
"Since last night I have heard 4 cases of animal cruelity in one the animal activists being hit..the Punjab case of mass killing by poisoning, Madhya Pradesh Corona patient's dog killing, Raipur activists being killed and the mother dog being poisoned .this is just so wrong"
Imagine a small piece of information circulated just yesterday has already starting showing it's colour.
Do the media houses even realize how this sensational news is going to affect the man's best friend? That too in India where the majority of Indians hate dogs.
It's a humble request to the Information and Broadcasting ministry to kindly restrict media houses from running this information. Both in print and television.
No one should be allowed to spread any news about stray animals unless it has been testified and declared by the WHO.
This is the least the central govt can do for the voiceless souls whose life man has made a hell.

If stray dogs were spreading covid 19 then both Kerala and Bhilwara would have never succeeded in making their areas COVID 19 free.
Media houses have a great responsibility towards this nation. They should know that amimals too are a part of this nation. They should think twice before publishing anything or telecasting anything. For them it may be rising TRPs but for animals it is the question of their existence on this planet.
