In an East Delhi colony Rajan and his wife Tanu are taking care of a female dog who gave birth to six babies about twenty days back. They already have three dogs as pets. Two of them are pedigree breed and one is an Indian breed dog whom they adopted from the streets of India.
Wish India had more such families.
Tanu (M- 9818691743) was out of station when the babies were delivered. When she returned home her neighbours told her that a female dog has delivered babies in a park facing their house. The mother had delivered six babies inside an underground enclosure in the park. Two of them died.
People told Tanu that the mother was attacking people and not allowing anyone to go near her babies.
Tanu understood the psyche of the mother and took precaution. She tried to befriend the mother by giving her food. She took the mother into confidence and told all the people to maintain distance from the babies because a lactating mother is generally quite protective of her babies and hence, is likely to bite and attack unknown people who go near her babies.
Tanu used to regularly feed the mother along with another resident Sushma. Sushma (M-9560984575) too is a caregiver who feeds around 5 to 6 dogs near her house. Like a responsible caregiver she not only feeds dogs but has also got all her dogs sterilized.
Around three days back it rained heavily in Delhi and during rain the underground enclosure got filled with water. The puppies would have all drowned had the mother not taken them out. But she stood with the pups on the grass helplessly all drenched and shivering.
Tanu didn't waste anytime and she with her husband Rajan and friend Sushma built a rainproof and cosy home in one of the corners of the park. The mother and her babies are now absolutely secure. They are well protected from heat, rain and cold.
Tanu and Sushma will get the babies vaccinated with 9 in 1 once they are 45 days old and after 3 months they will give them rabies vaccination. Thereafter, once they are seven month old they will get them sterilized.
These are responsibler caregivers who are doing everything possible to make the life of their furry friends blissful and happy but what is still lacking is the support from their own neighbours, RWA and the government.
There are still neighbours in their colony who do not approve of their noble gesture and oppose them in taking care of the dogs.
Isn't it time that the whole community supported the caregivers and made the life of community dogs healthier and happier?
