Nikhil ( M-9811763993) works with a media house and is a resident of East Delhi. In spite of his busy schedule  he takes time out for his furry friends.   He takes care of 6 dogs who happen to be members of the same family. Mom, Dad and four kids. Two male and two female.

The kids were born around three years back in a block adjacent to the block where Nikhil lives. But the people of that area hounded the dogs away and so they landed in Nikhil's block. Here too people were not very friendly and welcoming but Nikhil and his 9 year old son Abhyuday took a liking for them. Abhyuday started playing with them and Nikhil started feeding them. Another gentleman Rajagopal (M-9811668882) who lives in the opposite block used to feed the small pups when they were barely few months old. He used to especially go to the adjacent block to feed the puppies and their mother.

Now that they were in front of his block he and his wife are more than happy to take care of the dogs.

Both Nikhil and Rajagopal feed these dogs. All dogs are sterilized and Nikhil ensures that every year he gets the dogs vaccinated with rabies and 9 in 1 vaccination.

Delhi is quite cold during winters and to keep their four legged friends warm Rajagopal and Nikhil provide them with blankets, jute sacks, sweaters  and coats.

Nikhil stays in ground floor so he opens up his gate for the dogs to take shelter during extreme cold and rain in his courtyard.

As all the six dogs stay right in front of Nikhil's house so many times people especially his neighbours come complaining to him. They say that the dogs bark at people and even chase scooters and bikes.

Well, is it Nikhil's fault that all six dogs stay right in front of his house?

There are around 16 ground floor houses and 48 first, second and third floor houses in the two blocks where and Nikhil and Rajagopal stay. So in all there are roughly 64 families living but except Nikhil's and Rajagopala's family there is no other family which feeds these dogs .

Why would dogs flock around one house if they had more families feeding them?

Also the block where the dogs initially lived and were born shooed them away.  The residents of that block are guilty of removing the dogs from that block. But are they even aware that they have taken law into their hands by shooing the dogs away?

They had already decided to starve the dogs to death because they never gave these dogs food or water. Even today they fight with people who try to feed the dogs living in that area.

The dogs today are happy, healthy and alive because of caregivers like Rajagopal and Nikhil.

Nikhil is not only a good human being who has opened his heart and courtyard to the stray but  has also managed to inculcate the spirit of love, compassion and kindness in his only son Abhyuday towards the man's best friend.

Isn't Abhyuday a child? Why don't the dogs chase him or bite him? How come he plays with them and hugs them?

Dogs are not a threat to young kids. It is the kid's behaviour which provokes the dog to chase and bite. And wrong parenting is the main reason behind it.

Wish India had more parents like Nikhil
