Neeru today ( 23rd December) evening made a police complaint against the people who not only beat up the dogs but also Neeru and her husband yesterday night (22nd December).
The accused Manoj Sharma, his brother and father were not only beating the dogs and trying to remove them from their area but also thrashed Neeru's husband when he tried to stop them from beating the dogs. When Neeru tried to stop them from beating her husband they thrashed her too. They tore her clothes, broke her specks and warned her of dire consequences if she still tried to protect and feed the dogs of the area.
They were not alone. The other residents too joined the accused in threatening the couple as they too hate dogs and want them to be removed from their area. Neeru called the police and thereafter the situation came under control. They felt protected and secure only after the police came.
The SHO of the Maurya Enclave, Pitampura police station has assured Neeru of full protection not only to her but also the dogs. They have warned the miscreants and hopefully they won't indulge in any such illegal act again in future.
This was a good gesture by the Delhi Police. Police protection and it's positive approach towards the voiceless souls and the caregivers / dog feeders brings so much hope and strength to the caregivers.
This is what the dogs and the caregivers want and expect from the law enforcement agencies.
But not all caregivers and dog feeders are as bold as Neeru and her husband. They easily surrender to the strong and the mighty. They either stop feeding the dogs or turn blind to their relocation and removal from their area.
Should'nt the Delhi govt take positive steps in creating awareness about dog laws and give the recognition and acknowledgement which the caregiver deserves in the society?
One caregiver on an average feeds around 5 to 6 dogs from their own pocket. They often get them sterilized and take care of all their medical expenses.
They don't deserve beatings, abuses and humiliation from their neighbours and the RWA. Rather they should be thanked for their service to the society both by their neighbors, RWA and the government.
