A horrific incident has taken place in Pune (city in the state of Maharashtra) where a 9 year old Street dog Mona has been killed. And the reason was dog meat. Dog meat has become a business in the city of Pune.

Few men actually monsters in the flesh of human beings are killing healthy and old dogs for their meat. They come at night and chop the head of the dog then put the body in a car and run away. For past few days several stray and pet dogs have gone missing from the city.

These men use the dog meat in making dishes like momos. They also mix it with chicken. It's hard for the eater to know  if he or she ate eating dog meat. For further details please go to the link below:

Just few days back in the month of November a doctor was arrested for shooting a stray dog in the city of Bangalore. The doctor shot the dog because he was barking. For full report kindly go to the link below:

Its indeed a punishment for a dog to be born in India. They are killed for several reasons like:

1Barking

2 Bitting

3 over population

4 Food (Meat)

5 Sports (many people just kill for fun)

6 Rabies

In India an act for animal.welfare came in the year 1960. It is called Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act but one can see its impact and implementation.

The law mostly exist on paper.

There is hardly any awareness about these laws and if at all there is any awareness there is no fear of law.

Beating, kicking or any form of cruelty towards dogs is a punishable offence under the act but people all the time indulge in such activities. Hardly any FIRs are lodged in such cases.

FIRs  are lodged only when the cruelty leads to the death of a dog. That too if the complainant is educated and can plea well for the dog. Majority of the police personnel are either unaware about dog laws or even if they are aware they do not help the complainant in lodging their complaint. For them it's just a dog. Not such a big deal.

India is a country which strongly advocates vegetarianism and non violence.

It is a land of spiritualism where four religions have  originated: Hinduism, Sikhism, Jainism and Buddhism. The last three have sprung from Hinduism itself.

All four preach non violence and compassion

If we talk about Hinduism. It is a religion which worships mother nature in its varied forms: rivers, mountains, trees, animals etc

Dog is considered a vehicle and a companion of  Bhairav (a ferocious form of Lord Shiva).

If one visits Bhairav temple one finds lots of dogs there. The dogs are highly revered and fed by the devotees.

But the same devotees when they return home in their colony they start beating the dogs of their area. Consider them dirty and rabid. They fight with people who feed them and shoo the dogs away. At times they don't even hesitate to kill them. They either beat them to death or poison them.

Isn't this hypocracy? Our ancestors were better off than us. We have shamed them.

India today is a multicultural country where people from all religious and ethnic backgrounds  are living. Actually that what makes India so beautiful and vibrant. Every Indian is proud of this fact that Hinduism has embraced every religion and given the freedom to practice any religion which an individual wants to follow.

We find Christians, Muslims and Parsees in India too and their love for dogs is no less than any Hindu.

Dogs have been considered the most faithful and loyal friend in all civilizations. He has always been man's companion but unfortunately in India he is now being tortured and killed.

And people from all communities and religions are indulging in this inhuman practice.

It is not the religion but the negative mind set which people have towards this voiceless soul. For which the government machinery is responsible.

In the year 2015 the Kerala government ordered the killing of 40000 dogs. This state has 100 percent literacy but would you actually call the people educated. For full details you may go to the link below:

Today majority of Keralites whether they be Hindus, Muslims or a Christians are scared of dogs and start shooing them away the minute they see any stray dog.

Wish we had more responsible government and sensible policy makers. One wrong step and it causes irreparable damage.
